Need Financial Assistance Consideration
to Attend an Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ Course?
The Huntsman Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ program is intended to be accessible by students with an interest in a career in the ocean economy regardless of economic capacity or background. The Huntsman donor community were the first to contribution to the design of Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ courses and allow us to offer the courses at a favorable cost to students in the first year. Further limited “need-based” bursaries are available to subsidize the student registration costs when financial need to attend is demonstrated to acquire this limited financial support. The total amount of bursary available will be dependent upon available funds for this purpose in the specific fiscal year.
This policy provides information related to the Huntsman Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ Bursary Program. The policy will be applied in an equitable manner to all students applying to the bursary program. Note that attendance to Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ courses are based on the principle that students are expected to first access support from their own and family resources before requesting additional subsidy through the bursary program.
Eligibility

Student applicants for bursaries must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada.

Student applicants must be 15-18 years old when they attend the Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ course.

Student applicants must be enrolled in a provincial/territorial recognized educational institution or home schooled.

Student applicants must be participating in the Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ program for the first time.

Consideration will be given to families whose net income falls below the following threshold amounts:

Families with one (1) dependent: $50,000

Families with two (2) dependents: $55,000
-
Families with three (3) dependents: $60,000

Families with four (4) dependents: $65,000

Families with five (5) dependents: $70,000

Students are only permitted to receive one bursary award.
Application Procedures

Students must submit an application to attend an Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ course that interests their career interests in the ocean economy.

Students must submit the below bursary program application for consideration within three days of submitting their Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ course application (note that only online submission using this form will be considered for bursaries).

Applicants must submit the required documentation from both parents, unless they are deceased (in the case of single parent households, a signature from only one parent is required but documentation must be provided to confirm custodial status).
Application Assessment & Selection

Students are expected to have realistic financial plans to cover their registration and travel to/from the Huntsman costs. All applicants are expected to explore all reasonable sources of funding, including part-time employment, parental contributions, and other subsidies (e.g., schools, community organizations, local businesses, governments, etc.).

The selection of bursary recipients is based on demonstrated financial need. The assessment of fincial need is based on household income and number of dependents.

All successful applicants for bursaries will be notified by email.
Subsidy Funding & Payment

The total amount of bursary funding available will be determined by management based on available funds anticipated from the Huntsman donor community.

Individual bursary awards are based strictly on financial need. Applicants are expected to fully disclose details of their financial situation, including all resources to attend their Ocean S.T.E.A.M.™ course.
