Distinguishing Features

• Colonies 1–10 cm tall. Can be stolonal or erect with many large, irregular branches.
• Greenish colour when living.
• Stems polysiphonic and hydrothecae at irregular intervals, arising from all sides of the stem.
• Hydrothecae large (0.5–1.1 mm deep) and tubular, pedicels can be long and often twisted.
• Margin of hydrothecae smooth, everted but not flaring.
• No diaphragm or operculum.
• Gonothecae in masses (coppiniae).

Habitat

Found in depths of 5–950 m on rock substrates.

Geographic Range

Arctic and both sides of the north Atlantic.

Fun Fact

The species name come from the Latin Dumosa which means bushy or shrubby. It refers to the bushy shape of this hydroid.
