Marketing Content Creator

SUMMARY: The Huntsman Marine Science Centre (www.huntsmanmarine.ca) is an independent federally registered not-for-profit education and research institution located along the shore of the Bay of Fundy in St. Andrews, NB. Our mission is to inspire aquatic stewardship through education programming and advance marine science through collaborative research projects.

 

Huntsman is looking to recruit a passionate storyteller who shares our values focused on ocean education, conservation and research to support the ocean economy as our new Marketing Content Creator. This is a year round full-time position who will report to the Manager of Education & Outreach.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The position will be compensated at the appropriate entry level Coordinator to intermediate level Specialist position based on the education and experience demonstrated by the successful candidate. Additional benefits are provided to all Huntsman staff, including health care with life insurance as well as enhanced annual and paid sick leave following completion of a standard employment probationary period.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Social Media Communications: 30%

  • Track the Education & Outreach calendar of activities and events to create original content for public viewing.

  • Prepare appropriate text and images to post original content to promote Huntsman Marine activities and events on our social media channels.

  • Work collaboratively with team members focused on research marketing efforts to post and amplify messaging related to our aquatic science activities, announcements and outputs.

 

Tourism Focused Marketing: 30%

  • Write time limited scripts that provide effective radio messaging across a range of local radio stations.

  • Prepare tourism focused marketing content for distribution throughout the community and tourism information centres, such as rack cards, associated with the Fundy Discovery Aquarium, Huntsman Marine Experiences™ amongst other tourism offerings.

  • Prepare concepts and photographic imagery for static promotional material, such as magazine advertising, billboards, etc. that reflects the Huntsman Marine brand.

  • Work within a team to develop concepts for effective display material within the Fundy Discovery Aquarium.

 

General Marketing Support: 20%

  • Work within a team to develop general marketing collateral and content, such as banner bugs, signage, etc to promote Huntsman activities and products.

  • Prepare Education & Outreach content for and complete lay out of the entire Huntsman Marine monthly four-page newsletter Rising Tides (the research specific content will be supplied from other team members).

  • Prepare distribution lists (presently primarily using MailChimp) and complete mail-outs to specific lists, such as Rising Tides monthly, Huntsman Marine Member messages, etc.

  • Communicate Huntsman Marine marketing concepts to acquire quotes and relay design features with printers and graphic designers.

  • Support marketing efforts for third party events hosted at the Huntsman or elsewhere in partnerships with the Huntsman (e.g., concerts, conferences, St. Andrews Nature Club, etc.).

 

Research Oriented Marketing: 10%

  • Remain connected to new marketing trends that may benefit Huntsman Marine and communicate these to management in a timely manner, especially while annual marketing plans and budgets are under development.

 

Other Support: 10%

  • Advocate for Huntsman Marine marketing and content creation needs during the annual budget development process.

  • Support other Education & Outreach department activities when required, including Fundy Discovery Aquarium interpretation, special events, outreach activities, etc.

  • Prepare proposals to acquire marketing focused funding that increases the Huntsman capacity to meet its participant and guest targets.

  • Assist in further Huntsman business development opportunities as required.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree or diploma in marketing or related discipline.

  • Proven exceptional oral and written communication skills in English in a manner that is informative for dissemination in an engaging manner (particular attention paid to word choices, sentence structure and punctuation for most effective public communication).

  • Results oriented and self-motivated individual with a strong desire to share knowledge and passion for all aspects of public engagement, inspiring through public education, and a curiosity about the responsible uses of our aquatic resources within the Bay of Fundy working waterfront.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with colleagues having a diverse background and interact well within public settings.

  • Physical ability to perform assigned duties that may require work in adverse environmental conditions and/or carry or lift heavy materials.

  • Ability to legally work or obtain a Visa to work in Canada.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bilingual oral and written communication, preferably French.

  • Familiarization with the Bay of Fundy region.
