OverviewMapsm

Introduction

Investigate marine life first-hand, from our huge whales to smaller woodland birds. While you’ll learn lots about the ocean, no scientific background is necessary. You simply need to get to St. Andrews, and bring your curiosity for the experience of a lifetime! Some level of fitness is required as there will be some walking involved.

Trolling the Baytrawl from bottom of Bay of Fundy
Ocean Exploration participants will trawl the bottom of the Bay of Fundy on board our research vessel, the Fundy Spray, visit Indian Point for an inter-tidal walk, and examine their finds under the microscopes in our plankton lab. The learning continues with sessions on bird-banding, aquaculture, invertebrates and Huntsman research.

Whale and Wildlife Watch
One highlight of the adventure is a whale and wildlife expedition of the Bay of Fundy, with onboard educational interpretation by a marine biologist. Scan the horizon for whales, eagles, porpoises and seals - and have your camera at the ready!

Our Woodland Creatures
St. Andrews abounds with nature trails, and you will explore our woodlands on several local trails, including Ministers Island, the historic home of Sir William Van Horne, builder of the trans-Canada railroad - an island that can only be accessed at low tide!

Our Fragile Planet
There will be a presentation on local environmental issues.

Once Upon a Time...AdultPrograms_141
St. Andrews’ colourful history makes for some very interesting stories. You’ll have plenty of time to explore our community on your own, and savour the salt air and breathtaking views. And you’ll have some free time to meander through the shops, tour Kingsbrae Garden or visit local galleries and studios. There will also be one evening meal on your own.
