Summer Field Course for High School Students - 2012
Summer field courses are a great way to enrich your knowledge and learn more about a potential career field. These courses also give you an opportunity to share with fellow students who have similar interests.
Introduction to Marine Biology (ages 15-18)
Monday, July 9 to Friday, July 13
Fee: $670 Early Bird Fee: $610 if you register by May 9th
A fun, yet practical hands-on introduction to current research projects. You will assist with real time baseline data collection for a number of on-going projects and have an opportunity to work alongside Huntsman scientists. The different research techniques and methods that you will learn about should be transferable to your own classroom. It is not always serious work!
You’ll learn about - and work on: * invasive species, such as tunicates & green crabs * invertebrate biodiversity * seabird, whale, and seal surveys * aquaculture issues * bird-banding mark/recapture techniques

The course cost is all-inclusive and covers - dormitory accommodation; three full meals/day; instruction by the HMSC Public Education teaching staff ; boat excursions, lab equipment and supplies; admission to Museums; local transport, and all taxes.
The course starts at 1 p.m. on July 9, and finishes after lunch on Friday July 13.
