Summer Field Courses for High School Students - 2010

Summer field courses are a great way to enrich your knowledge and learn more about a potential career field. These courses also give you an opportunity to share with fellow students who have similar interests.

Introduction to Marine Biology - students

Sunday, July 11 to Friday, July 16

Fee: $745

The course focuses on the amazing variety of creatures that inhabit the Bay of Fundy, from the beach to the deep water.

Learn more about:
   *  fish, seabirds, seals, whales, invertebrates
   *  the intertidal zone
   *  local seashores and where to find life on the water’s edge
   *  how to identify marine creatures
   *  the biology of marine life in the natural habitat and in the lab
   *  the unique features of the Bay of Fundy tides, which are responsible for the abundance of marine life

Researching Marine Vertebrates—students

Tuesday, August 3 to Saturday, August 7

Fee: $700

This course offers participants a unique opportunity to
observe and study whales, both baleen and toothed; seals, seabirds and fish in their natural habitat.

Discover more about:
   *  seabirds, seals and whales
   *  cold water fish from our boat trip and in the lab
   *  marine mammal surveys
   *  whale identification and research programs; take a trip on a whale-watching boat to identify and photograph whales, take GPS locations, review sightings and how to catalogue whales

The course cost is all-inclusive and covers - dormitory accommodation; three full meals/day; services of the HMSC Public Education teaching staff ; boat excursions, lab equipment and supplies; admission to Museums; local transport, and all taxes.

All courses start at 4:30 p.m. on the start date, and finish after lunch on the last day.

You just need to find your way to St. Andrews!
