Located at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy, the Huntsman is perfectly positioned to access one of the worlds most productive ecosystems. The daily rise and fall of the huge tides stirs up nutrients that provide food for microscopic plants, which in turn feed small animals. This abundance of zooplankton and fish attracts whales, seals, porpoises and seabirds from all over the North Atlantic. Students will have a chance to see them first hand on the course boat trips. Land time will we spent studying characteristics, adaptations, migrations and more.

Participants will learn about:

* marine mammal and seabird diversity
* their adaptations to the marine environment
* migration patterns
* whale catalogues that identify individual animals * and more

Fee includes: four night dormitory accommodation, all meals from Monday supper to Friday breakfast, boat and lab fees, aquarium admissions and taxes. You just need to find your way to St. Andrews , NB.

Twice a day the tide at the mouth of the Bay rise and fall eight meters stirring up nutrients that have drifted to the ocean floor.  Join us as we explore this unique environment and the diversity of life it supports. What we catch and collect at low tide is what we will observe more closely in the lab when the tide in high.

  • weird and wonderful invertebrate inhabitants of the area
  • plankton drifters that start most marine food chains
  • invaders new and old
  • St. Andrews‐by‐the‐sea maritime connections past and present
