Course fees include residence and meals on the Huntsman campus, boat, lab fees, and admission to the Huntsman Fundy Discovery Aquarium.

All Things Marine – Spring May 28 – 31, 2019

Open to family and friends, ages 10 years and older 
Fee: $499 per person (based on double occupancy)
Family/Group of 4 Fee: $399 per person (based on quadruple occupancy)
Program Only:  $350 per person / $315 per child under 12 (includes 3 lunches and 3 suppers)

Canada’s Bay of Fundy is an excellent outdoor classroom. The daily cycle of the eight meter tide stir up nutrients which provide the essential base for many marine food chains. Twice a day as the tide recedes the ocean floor is exposed      allowing terrestrial creatures, like us, to explore.  Join us as we venture out into this unique environment to see what we can discover and what the tide has left behind. What we catch and collect is what we will observe more closely back in the lab when the tide returns and covers our playground.

Discover:

  • the wonderful and unique biodiversity of our local ecosystems
  •  drifting plankton community that starts most marine food chains
  • marine invaders new and old
  • art and photography skills you didn’t know you had
  • St. Andrews-by-the-sea maritime connections past and present

Fee covers three night en-suite accommodation, nine meals from Tuesday supper to Friday lunch, all instructional fees, boat and lab rental, Aquarium admission and taxes. You just need to find your way to St. Andrews , NB.

Introduction to Marine Biology – July 8 – 12, 2019

Age: 15 to 18 
Fee: – Early Bird Registration by May 9th $670 – Regular Course Fee $695 

Come and explore the shores of the Bay of Fundy with students who share your interest in marine life and the unique environment that supports it. This hands-on field course will introduce participants to the animals hiding under the seaweed, under the rocks, in the mud. Bring a bucket. What you collect is what you will study back in the lab. Once you understand the basics you will be able to assist with the collection of  baseline data for a number of on-going research projects. The climate is changing, animals are adapting, be part of the data collection team.

Participants will learn about:

  • marine invertebrate biodiversity and ecosystems
  • life contained in a drop of seawater
  • the threat of invasive species, such as green crabs and tunicates
  • the importance of long term data sets
  • their own power of observation and more….

Fee includes: four night dormitory accommodation, all meals from Monday supper to Friday breakfast, boat and lab fees, aquarium admissions and taxes. You just need to find your way to St. Andrews , NB.

Introduction to Marine Mammals & Seabirds – July 22 – 26, 2019

Age: 15 – 18
Fee:  Early Bird Registration by May 23rd $685 – Regular Course Fee $730

Located at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy, the Huntsman is perfectly positioned to access one of the worlds most productive ecosystems. The daily rise and fall of the huge tide stirs up nutrients that provide food for the drifting planktonic community. This microscopic plants and animals feed large schools of fish and krill; whose abundance in turn attracts whales, porpoises , seals and seabirds from all over the North Atlantic. Out on the water students learn to identify the local species and observe their          behaviour. Land time will we spent studying characteristics, adaptations, migrations and more.

Participants will learn about:

  • marine mammal and seabird diversity in the Bay of Fundy
  • adaptations to the marine environment
  • field data and the power of observation
  • whale catalogues and identifying an individual in a population……
