Ocean Technologies Development Officer

SUMMARY: The Huntsman Marine Science Centre (www.huntsmanmarine.ca), in collaboration with BioNB, is recruiting to fill an Oceans Technologies Development Officer position located on the Huntsman campus in Saint Andrews, NB and reporting to the Manager of Aquatic Services. The successful individual will maximize New Brunswick participation in the Ocean Supercluster (OSC) initiative to ensure its outcomes also impact the New Brunswick economy and support long-term growth of the sector in the Province.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The position is a full-time 100% business development appointment with salary commensurate with experience. The position is open to be filled immediately and for a 2-year term from the position start date. Extensions may be possible based on availability of funds and performance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work to identify, create partnerships and support OSC Technology Leadership Project proposals that involve New Brunswick SMEs and institutions.
  • Support technology ideation and validation with SMEs and institutions in the Province to enhance overall competitiveness and firm growth related to the ocean economy.
  • Facilitate community building and coordinate networking to enhance New Brunswick participation in OSC Innovation Ecosystem Projects.
  • Bridge the gap between existing sectoral silos of technology that may also fit within the ocean economy (e.g., IT, AgTech, CleanTech, etc.).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in a field of study aligned with the ocean economy – Marine Engineering, ICT, Marine Biology, Environmental Sciences by the time of appointment.
  • Demonstrated 2 years of relevant work experience, including business development activities.
  • Proven capability to build teams across different perspectives to attain common goals.
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team, inclusive of oral and written communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license.

CONSIDERED ASSETS:

  • Bilingual oral and written fluency in English and French considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated cross-sectoral experience related to the ocean economy.
  • MBA university degree focused on business development, marketing or intellectual property protection.
